A Letter to my Firstborn.

Dear Simon today marks a big day in your life, and a huge day in ours.

4 years ago today you came in to this world earlier than we expected and stole our hearts. I loved you the minute I laid eyes on you. I knew you were meant to be ours from then on. I didn’t get to carry you in my womb, but you grew in my heart just the same.

We only found out about you 5 weeks before you were born, but what an awesome surprise you turned out to be.

This year you have learned a lot, you spell your name, you can now pick out the letters that make up your name and you continue to amaze me. Just the other day you held up 3 fingers on each hand and said “mom, 3+3=6”  Hmmm, I still can’t figure out if you came up with that all on your own or what.

This year you have also become a very emotional boy, you tell me at least 8 times a day how much you love me, unprovoked and not when you are in trouble. You still take 2 hour naps every afternoon and are so fond of your brother.

You are also learning to swim, boy have you taken a shine to that, every morning you wake up and ask, Can we go to swimming lessons now? You have excelled and I love the change in attitude I have seen in you, from the 1st two days where you were pretty scared to the next few weeks where you knew you could do it and you did. I hope this carries on in your life, knowing you can learn well and experience joy with new things.

You are such a great big brother, I am so glad you love him so much, sometimes too much, but he will learn to fight back (: One morning we were all 3 snuggled up in bed and you leaned over to Levi and put your arm around him and whispered “I’ll protect you buddy”.

There are times when I glance into your spirit and it takes my breath away. I love how you view the world.

Just this week, you asked me if G-d has a belly and I said “I don’t know maybe you should ask him” next thing I hear you saying “Dear G-d do you have a belly?” I looked at you and you shrugged and replied, “you said I can just talk to G-d”  And I meant it, it would be my greatest joy in life if you followed after G-ds own heart. That is my prayer for you that you will “Seek justice, love mercy and walk humbly with thy G-d” Micah 6:8  It is the what I strive after also. At times it seems as though life is unfair, but I won’t ask you to do or learn things that I don’t strive for myself.

Someday you might become a parent yourself, if that day comes I hope that you can draw from what we have taught you and seek Jesus for all the rest. Our job is to point you in the right direction. Lord may we be a good compass, always pointing him to you.

Happy 4th Birthday, I ope to experience many more with you.

I’ll love you forever, Mom
